Incredible Snow
Location: Oswego County - 30 Miles North of Syracuse
Can you believe this snow?
A few years ago (Febrary 10, 2007), about a week after a Tug Hill trip where I skied on plenty of snow, my sister
sent me these photos she got from a friend of hers who lives up in Oswego county. There evidently was quite a
blizzard that dumped about 6 feet of snow over about two days. The photos show the the road
crew trying to clear a drift over Route 11, a major road that parallels Interstate 81. The ski areas up
there never lack for snow and spend a lot of time grooming the ski trails and plowing parking lots. The
Winona Forest Tourathon takes place in early March and can count on pretty good conditons even then. When
you hear about a "lake effect" snow storm, this is what they mean, but they are very local and Syracuse
probably got much less.
The two below pictures show how they opened the road and finally, the open road.
